Minister Confirms Ministry of Defence Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

A defence official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is actively looking into the potential security risks associated with Chinese vehicles, while staff have been told to refrain from discussing secret matters in any vehicles.

Security Guidance for MoD Staff

In a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that MoD officials have been told not to talk about classified information while riding in Chinese cars.

He said that the MoD is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but noted that safety is a concern in all modern cars.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified level in any car, because of the increasing risks of surveillance that exist in every single vehicle, to only have those secret talks in protected areas. That’s a wise and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Security Background

The revelation comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could enable the Chinese government to disable public transport and cause chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship has been directing laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The broader security environment underscores the significance of strong protocols and caution in every aspects of official operations, from vehicle usage to communication practices.
